Report N1 (added on January, 22, 2007)
I contacted a girl on Yahoo Personals who said she lived in a city near me but who, when we got in contact through gmail, admitted that she was actually from Russia. I was totally unaware of how much scamming goes on on the Net but this did make me a bit suspicious. Anyway, the mails were interesting, if very poetic and vague, and the girl was cute so I continued our correspondence. I still am in contact with this girl and she hasn't asked for any money yet or told me a sob story (except about how lonely she is) but the warning signs are all there. Now she's asked to call me by phone and I'm going to go along with it just for kicks.
I've gone through my mails with this girl and pulled out the following IPs:
195.161.214.11 - Russian Federation (high) [City: ]
212.44.92.18 - Satellite Provider, Sweden [City: ]
87.238.118.100 - Satellite Provider, Italy [City: Milano, Lombardia]
213.24.120.199 - Russian Federation (high) [City: Yoshkar-Ola, Mariy-El]
I'd appreciate being corrected on the IP thing, as I actually don't know what I'm doing or looking for with those numbers. I'm just going off what others have said.
I'm going to post our exchanges in the hopes that someone can confirm that she does indeed appear to be a scammer. And, no, I will not send this girl any money.
Michael (USA)
